Electro-Sensitive Protective Equipment

Electro-sensitive protective equipment (ESPE) uses optical beams to detect a person or body part entering a safety field without mechanical contact, securing hazardous areas on machines.

Key Specifications:

  • Light curtains: Type 4 (EN 61496), PL e (EN ISO 13849-1)
  • Resolution: 14 mm finger, 30 mm hand
  • Field heights: 159 to 1,812 mm, 12 sizes
  • Light arrays for body protection: 300 / 400 / 500 mm
  • Through-beam sensors: Type 2, PL c, range up to 50 m
Applications: Securing hazardous areas on machines, Muting stations that let pallets pass through the safety field into and out of a danger zone, Finger and hand protection at manual loading points on presses and assembly machines, Access protection for robot cells and palletizers

Safety Guards

Safety guards are physical barriers that protect people from machine hazards. They also protect time-critical processes from being interrupted by approaching people.

Key Specifications:

  • Rating: PL e (Cat. 4 PL e on some models)
  • Guard locks: 500 N or 1,150 N locking force
  • RFID switches: standard or individual coding
  • Connection: M12, 8-pin
Applications: Monitoring and locking machine doors and hinged guards, Holding guards closed until hazardous run-down motion has stopped, Tamper-resistant door monitoring with individually coded RFID switches, Preventing time-critical processes from being interrupted by people approaching

Safety Relays and Analysis Modules

Safety relays evaluate signals from emergency stop switches and protective devices for safety functions to EN ISO 13849-1 and EN 60204-1. Analysis modules monitor safety through-beam sensors and switch off the safety output when the beam is interrupted.

Key Specifications:

  • Stop category (EN 60204-1): 0 or 0/1
  • Safety outputs: 2, 3 or 4
  • Potential-free disconnection
  • Screw or pluggable screw terminals
Applications: Evaluating emergency stop switch circuits, Evaluating safety light curtains and other protective devices (wenglor system overview pairs SR4/SG4 relays with its ESPE), Monitoring wenglor safety through-beam sensors, Safely de-energizing machine contactors
wenglor emergency stop switches and enabling switch

Command Devices

Command devices provide safe communication between human and machine, for example to set up, start, shut down or stop machines and automated processes.

Key Specifications:

  • Emergency stops: complete sets, contact blocks, actuators
  • Enabling switches: 3 changeover contacts
  • Enabling switch temp: -5 to 60 °C
  • Connections: screw, cable, or M12
Applications: Setting up, starting, shutting down or stopping machines and automated processes, Emergency stop stations on machines and conveyor lines, Three-position enabling during setup and teach-in of robots

Muting Sets

Muting sets combine muting sensors and arms with wenglor safety light arrays or light curtains to form a complete muting station, so objects can be carried through a machine's hazardous area.

Key Specifications:

  • Cross muting: 2-sensor set
  • Linear muting: 2-sensor or 4-sensor sets
  • Aluminum housing, -30 to 60 °C
  • Pairs with Wenglor light curtains and arrays
Applications: Moving pallets into and out of a danger zone through the ESPE safety field, Palletizer and conveyor infeed/outfeed stations where material passes but people must not, Keeping material flowing while stopping on unauthorized access
